The Internet.org app provides free basic services in markets where internet access may be less affordable. It allows people to browse selected health, employment and local information websites without data charges. The Connectivity Lab at Facebook is developing ways to make affordable internet access possible in communities around the world. The team is exploring a variety of technologies, including high-altitude long-endurance planes, satellites and lasers.

The Internet.org Innovation Lab, an Ericsson-Facebook collaboration, was designed to help developers understand how their apps will work in different parts of the world. The lab’s elaborate test environment mimics a variety of network conditions, giving developers a way to ensure their apps will run even in very remote areas.Learn more.

Over 85% of the world’s population lives in areas covered with cellular, yet only about 30% of the total population is having accesses to the internet. Affordability and awareness are significant barriers to internet adoption for many and facebook has introduced the Internet.org app to make the internet accessible to more people by providing free basic services.


With this app, people can browse a useful health, employment and local information services free of cost. By providing free basic services via yhis app, facebook is planning to bring more people online and help them discover valuable services they might not have otherwise. This will significantly increase facebook menbership

The Internet.org app was launched in Zambia will be available first to Airtel subscribers in Zambia but soon will be available world wide on all networks.
